I followed the day four prompt on the NaPoWriMo.net for this poem.
Write a poem about a painting in your home or common public spaces. I have a painting that I've carried with me since Ashish and I were married in 2013. It has travelled with us from Louisiana to Portland, OR. From Portland to Connecticut, and then back. It was given to us by a family friend who is an artist, Pam Soileau. More of her art can be found on her Instagram profile:
Wedding gift
sun in blue sky
desperate for eyes
to witness it
eclipse the flood.
All these years,
I am waiting
for the rain
to quench the sky.
I remember
I chose this,
this wide ocean,
this widest mirror
eclipsed by sun
rising in the west.
