Today's poem I used the @poetrypromptgenerator on Instagram. I used the 4/1 post that referenced the Gwendolyn Brooks poem "To the Young Who Want to Die". Instead of using the suggested prompt, I used Brooks' poem as inspiration for the sijo that I wrote below:
Tipping point
I learned at 23 not to drive
off a cliff with intention.
Instead, I crafted myself
into a woman I liked,
not into a shadow
of everyone else’s regrets.
" not a shadow of everyone else's regrets"
Wow. This tiny poem is a gut punch.
