I followed today's prompt on napowrimo.net, which was to build a list of words, and then find words that rhyme and build a poem with or around them.
I really enjoyed writing this tiny spring poem. The form ended up being a cascade of lines, making the poem have a feeling of momentum forward. The winter wren in this poem was a nice surprise. Winter wren's have a beautiful song that sounds verdant.
Spring
I watch for a clearing
in the morning mist. Fluted
bird song emeralds the titanium
skyline soft and feathered. I beat
a papery rhythm into the gravel pathway
with my shoes as I wander without any reason
but to move my body forward. Listen. The winter
wren sings in the same palette of green as my daydream.
